School Taster at Hallamshire

What We Can Offer Your School:

Here at Hallamshire we are committed to offering local pupils of all ages and standards the opportunity to experience the game of tennis.

We offer a FREE ‘taster’ session to each year group in a school, either here at the Hallamshire or if more convenient at your school.  The ‘taster’ session usually lasts for 1 hour, during that time we give the children a basic introduction to the game. e.g. ball skills, co-ordination, movement and racket skills.

After the FREE ‘taster’ we are committed to offering additional tennis coaching for those schools who choose to continue.  In this event we would meet with the schools sport co-ordinator to discuss your individual needs, we understand that each school has different circumstances regarding curriculum and extra curricular activities in respect to time, space and location.  Therefore we offer a wide range of alternatives to suit your circumstances. Sessions can start at 30 mins or spread out over 1 hour 30 mins. e.g. Ecclesall Infant School have a 45 min session during lunch break, where as Hunters Bar make the short trip to the club where the 3 classes in each year group, have a 30 min session.

Schools have the opportunity to book coaching sessions on individual days such as part of a health or fitness week, or as a block of coaching to suit half or full terms either at the Hallamshire Tennis & Squash Club or at the school. Equipment is provided, including rackets and balls, and can be brought to the school.

Whatever time and days your school require we can cater for.

Talent ID:

During the sessions, our coaches will be also be identifying the more gifted and talented players.  As the local performance center it is our responsibility to assist those who show greater potential.  These players have the opportunity to do additional sessions here at the club to help fast-track their development.

Tennis Festivals:

Each term we will be running a tennis festival.  All the schools which have participated in a taster session will be invited to come along and take part in a fun day at the Hallamshire Tennis & Squash Club.  This is another opportunity for the children experience the game and to mix and interact with children from other schools.

The festival dates for 2010-2011 are:

Sunday November 28th 2010 – 3-5pm

Sunday April 3rd 2011 – 3-5pm

Sunday July 10th 2011 – 3-5pm

All coaches that lead schools sessions have LTA Licenses and CRB Certificates
